Endothelial cell dysfunction contributes to the etiology of more diseases than any other tissue in the body. Endothelial cell metabolism is an emerging but understudied therapeutic target, and scientists are gaining a new appreciation for the importance of endothelial cell metabolic flexibility and regional heterogeneity in cardiovascular pathologies. Here we highlight research that provides insight on several fronts, which could hasten development of endothelial cell targeted therapeutics.

Aim of the event

To bring together researchers & clinicians interested in endothelial cell metabolism to enhance understanding of how the endothelium is emerging as therapeutic target for intervention.

Topics

Methods in endothelial cell metabolism research

How the endothelium might be targeted to mitigate outcomes of lipotoxicity-evoked vascular complications

How the endothelium can be leveraged to lessen the severity of aging-related vascular pathologies

How endothelial cell metabolism can be targeted to attenuate stroke-related tissue injury and cognitive deficits

Poster session

Lightening (5-min) talks selected from poster submissions

Target group

Early career researchers & clinicians and trainees working in fields broadly related to endothelial cell metabolism.

All students will be invited to submit a research poster that will be available for viewing during the lunch break. From these submissions, 6 students will be chosen to present orally (5-min talk; 5-min questions) based on findings shown in their poster. Posters / presentations by students do not have to be “finished products,” and “work in progress” is encouraged.

Learning objectives

Describe standard and novel methods used in endothelial cell metabolism research, including their applications and limitations.

Describe how the endothelium might be targeted to mitigate outcomes of lipotoxicity-evoked vascular complications

Describe how the endothelium can be leveraged to lessen the severity of aging-related vascular pathologies

Describe how endothelial cell metabolism can be targeted to attenuate stroke-related tissue injury and cognitive deficits

Keynote speakers

Prof Ingrid Fleming

Prof Stefan Chlopicki

Prof Sebastiano Sciarretta

Allocation of seats

Participants are selected on a first come, first served basis; however you are not guaranteed a seat at the event if you do not meet the target group requirements. Priority is given to early career researchers (PhD-students and Postdocs) employed at Danish research and healthcare institutions or in life science industry. A number of seats may be reserved for participants from abroad. If the event is overbooked, DCAcademy reserves the right to select participants based on the defined requirements.

Participation cost

DCAcademy covers participation fee and catering.

ECTS points

Apply to your Graduate School by providing Certificate of Attendance (available upon request) and the course program.

No-show fee

Please note that the DCAcademy will charge a no-show fee of 500 DKK if you do not show up and have not unregistered prior to start.
