The course will introduce the students to the applications of the MR technique within the cardiovascular system. The focus of the MRI applications will primarily be on how to determine clinically important aspects of abnormality in cardiac morphology and function. The course will also discuss/highlight those MR cardiovascular applications that the course participants are wish to know more about during the discussion sections. 

A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:

• Understand the basic MRI physics governing cardiovascular applications and those sequence parameters necessary to optimize quality of the cardiovascular scans.
• Understand the impact/change of the sequence parameters on the interpretation of imaging the cardiovascular abatomy and physiology.
• Be familiar with the prospective and retrospective techniques to compensate for cardiac motion and how to deal with vascular pulsation.
• Be familiar with how some specific cardiac physiology problems can be addressed with cardiac MRI: eg aortic stiffness, cardiac output, ventricular stress etc.
• Be familiar with different contrast agents used in clinic and its impact in MR images i term of signal changes.
• Be familiar with MR safety procedures

Who can attend:

This course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee. Target group is people who are working with and/or interested in cardiac MR applications. No prior knowledge of MRI is required.
