Aim of the course

The main aim of the course is to give PhD students and Postdoctoral Fellows a broad overview of how sex influences the mechanisms behind metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Another important aim is to facilitate the development of novel networks between researchers in the cardiovascular field, between basic and clinical researchers as well as between early career researchers and international experts.

The participants in the course will have the opportunity to:

  • Sharpen their awareness and knowledge on the role of sex in metabolic and cardiovascular disease
  • Present their project findings and interact with senior scientists
  • Increase their network with fellow peers and international speakers with both basal and clinical backgrounds
  • Attend the Novo Nordisk Foundation symposium well prepared

Content

The course consists of four sessions addressing different aspects of the main topic and one session which aims to prepare the participants for the symposium the day after the course:

  • The physiological impact of sex hormones
  • How sex hormones influence the development of cardiometabolic disease
  • Prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic disease in relation to sex and gender
  • Methods and Experimental models: considerations
  • Prepare for the Novo Nordisk Foundation symposium; get to know the speaker

The course includes talks from expert researchers, workshops, and poster presentations as well as different networking activities.

Participants are required to bring a poster

All participants will make a 3 minute project pitch during the course and will ahead of the course be requested to submit 200 words abstract.
