Thomas Jespersen is the new Executive Managing Director of DCAcademy

From 1 May 2025, a larger structural change at DCAcademy has been made. After four years as Executive Managing Director, Professor Christian Aalkjær is stepping down.

We can therefore announce our new Executive Managing Director: Professor Thomas Jespersen from the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

“From the beginning, Thomas Jespersen has been part of defining the academy, establishing funding and has until now functioned as Executive Training Director. It is therefore natural that Thomas should transition into the role of the academy’s new director. He is a reputable researcher who has his finger on the pulse regarding the cardiovascular field”, says Christian Aalkjær.

Although the academy has changed director, the mission remains the same: “We continue to offer the highest level of training and education for the next generation of leaders within cardiovascular research as well as strengthen national and international networks across disciplines and geography in Denmark”, Thomas Jespersen emphasises.

While Christian, after many years’ services, has stepped down from the position as director, he will still be part of the academy’s management catalogue and can be met at our events. Since Christian has chosen to pass the baton on, he will now be taking on the responsibility as our Senior Scientific Advisor. This will be of great value for both our employees, our collaborators and our network, Thomas states.

Additionally, Thomas mentions that he is excited for the future as the academy’s external presence, and he looks forward to the opportunities and challenges that come with this.
