PhD-course: The Copenhagen City Heart Study 1976-2026 - A Masterclass in Epidemiology
Join us in celebrating 50 years of world-class epidemiologic research by The Copenhagen City Heart Study. The course offers the opportunity of diving deep into the wonders of Epidemiology, past and present, with a handful of leading local and international scientists. Join us for this 1-day PhD-course ending with a cosy networking dinner in the evening and followed by next day's celebration of the Copenhagen City Heart Study's 50 years Anniversary.
Learning objectives
After your participation in the course, you will:
- Have knowledge of the process involved in initiating an epidemiological study, including obtaining legal permissions, preparing data applications, and managing logistical aspects such as data collection.
- Have insights into different statistical methods used in epidemiology.
- Understand the main epidemiological study designs, including observational and register-based studies
- Be able to identify and evaluate epidemiological research and communicate findings to fellow researchers
- Be able to describe the scientific advantages, challenges and weaknesses of the exceptionally long 50 years longitude of Copenhagen City Heart Study, with follow-up examinations of the participants through every decade since 1976.
Participants are expected to participate in the Copenhagen City Heart Study’s 50 years Celebrational Symposium the day after the PhD-course. Registration for the Celebrational Symposium will open in January 2026.

Target group
PhD students and others with an interest in the scientific topic of epidemiology.
Participants are offered the opportunity to present own research with a poster at the celebrational symposium. Abstracts may be selected for publication in a special-edition of a peer-reviewed journal.

The course is co-organised by Bispebjerg Hospital, Copenhagen City Heart Study and Danish Cardiovascular Academy.
